What is Foot valve?

Table of Contents

The foot valve is composed of valve body, valve bonnet, valve disc, sealing ring and gasket. The English name is Foot Valve or bottom Valve, which is a kind of check valve. After the shutdown, the water in the suction pipeline is drained.

The valve cover can filter large particles, and the valve disc is closed by its own weight or its own weight + spring pressure. There are several types of discs such as single disc, double disc and multi disc:

The foot valve is equipped with multiple water inlets on the valve cover, and is equipped with a screen to reduce the inflow of debris and reduce the probability of clogging of the foot valve. Although the foot valve is equipped with an anti-clogging screen, the foot valve is generally suitable for cleaning media. It is not suitable to use the foot valve for media with excessive viscosity and particles. The foot valve is welded to the foot of the container to achieve the best emptying, cleaning and disinfection effects.

The structure is ideal both in terms of flow rate and process requirements. In addition, there will be no turbulence when emptying.

The foot valve has reasonable design, advanced manufacturing technology, and convenient installation, use and maintenance. And it has low friction resistance and long service life.

The foot valve can also mix the working medium well according to the various process requirements during the operation

The foot valve of the tank is as close as possible to the foot wall of the tank, so as to achieve the effect of no dead angle.

According to the material, the foot valve can be divided into plastic foot valve and metal foot valve. It can also be divided into ordinary foot valve and foot valve with backwash water flow.

Main application

Before starting the foot valve non-self-filling centrifugal pump, the pump must be filled with water before it can be started. The foot valve is mainly used in non-self-filling centrifugal pump pumping occasions. It is installed at the foot of the suction pipe and is completely submerged in water. The foot valve has a non-return function. The water in the suction pipeline can only flow to the inlet of the pump and cannot return to the suction pool. The pump needs to be filled when the pump is started for the first time. Problem, a certain amount of water is required to start again).

Check valves usually cannot withstand high pressure, but the backflow of water on the outlet side of the pump will generate a lot of pressure after the pump is stopped. In order to prevent the foot valve from being damaged, some foot valves are equipped with pressure relief pipes.

Self-priming pump requires foot valve or not?

Generally speaking, there is no need to install a foot valve, because the inlet of the self-priming pump has its own check valve, which is what we often call a one-way valve, so that after the pump is stopped, the liquid in the pump body cannot It is returned to the original pool and stored in the pump body, so there is no need to add liquid when it is used for the second time.

If the foot valve is installed, the effect will be better, because if the one-way valve is damaged sometimes, there is a foot valve as a guarantee, no idling will occur, and the installation of the foot valve will effectively ensure the effective suction of the pump.

Another special case, but if the suction height difference is too large, or the diameter of the suction pipe is too large, and the volume exceeds the amount of liquid stored in the pump cavity of the self-priming pump, it will not work properly. At this time, a foot valve must be installed to ensure safe and fast self-priming.
